Kina Festival is organized by Ishyo once in two years. It is performing arts for children festival. Its main objectives are developing children’s creativity using the Arts and improving young artists’ creative skills through high quality arts workshops and exposure to performances by both children and renowned international artists. Started in 2009, Kina’s days are made of performances, workshops and meetings which are organized and are real encounters breaking social barriers between Rwandan children (street kids, orphans, students…)
The 2015 edition hosted five theatre companies from Europe and Africa namely ‘Helios Teater’ (Germany), ‘La Baracca’ (Italy), ‘Le Theatre du Chocolat’ (Cameroon), ‘La Troupe Lampyre’ (Burundi) and Ishyo Arts Centre (Rwanda). They all performed for kids from schools, orphanages, centers etc such as Ecole Belge de Kigali, Ecole Primaire de Kacyiru, SOS Children Kigali, Les Enfants de Dieu Center. They also conducted theater workshops for artists and participated in the conference ‘Small Size Big Citizens’ with artists, culture and education experts to discuss the role of creativity and arts education in children and youth’s development and in public education.
